Drifting Lahaina Flowers was inspired by the Lahaina memorial paddle-out, where flowers drifted across the ocean in remembrance, love, and aloha.
I first create a composite structural support that captures the flowing form of a wave. I then hand-shape translucent polymer before it cures, bonding it to the form — building luminous layers and organic forms that evoke flowers drifting across the sea during the paddle-out. As light moves through the sculpture, it becomes a tribute to remembrance, aloha, healing, and hope carried across the ocean.
The sculpture reflects the movement of the ocean and the strength of a community united in healing, remembrance, and hope.
